Three Survive Blazing Furnace
King Nebuchadnezzar had a really big image built out of gold. He summoned everyone in his kingdom to bow down and worship this image. He proclaimed whoever did not fall down and worship the idle when the music started, would be thrown into a blazing furnace. As soon as the King found out there were three Jews, who he had put in charge of the province of Babylon, that did not participate, he became very angry. When he sent for them, he found out they were none other than Shadrach, Meshach and Abedenego. King Nebuchadnezzar gave the trio one last chance to save themselves, by allowing them one more chance to bow down and worship the golden image. The music started, and they still refused. They were reported saying "O, Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it." This reportedly made the King even more angry. What God could possibly be more powerful than King Nebuchadnezzar, or his gods? Upon hearing this the King ordered the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than usual. He then he had Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego's hands tied and had them thrown into the blazing furnace. (to be continued...)
What do you think will happen to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego? (Discussion Time)
Babylon Polls reports: 10% - of the Babylonian population do not have an opinion
20% - of the Babylonian population believe they will die in the furnace
70% - of the Babylonian population believe God will deliver them out of the blazing furnace unharmed.
Blazing Furnace Part II (continued from column I)
King Nebuchadnezzar lept to his feet in amazement when he looked inside the furnace. He asked each of his advisors how many men were thrown into the blazing furnace. Each replied "only three". The King then told his advisors that he had seen four men inside the furnace unbound and unharmed dancing.
Who was the fourth person in the fire? To find out read Daniel 3:25
